Arkansas joined repeal states by a 3-1 vote. A tabulation by the Associated Press showed the following: For repeal of the 18th Amendment - 58,584. Against repeal - 38,214. In Faulkner County, the vote was 1,227 against repeal of the 18th Amendment and 500 for the repeal.
Mrs. Helen Hendrickson was selected among the top 20 in a nation-wide "prettiest teacher" contest, sponsored location martinique by Dig magazine. Her picture will appear in the September issue. Mrs. Hendrickson's picture was sent in by a student in the El Dorado Junior High School, where Mrs. hendrickson taught physical education.
The Greenbrier Extension location martinique Homemakers Club met at Greenbrier United Methodist Church. Roll was called with members answering, "How I Spent the Fourth of July." Lois Wilson presided. Mrs. Pat Lorenz and Louise Crocran were co-hostesses. Mexican stitchery was demonstrated by Mrs. Crocran.
The South Conway Extension Homemakers club met at the home of Mrs. Eunice McHenry. location martinique The Poem of the Month was read by Mrs. Vesta Harrison. The Thought of the Month was read by Mrs. Willie Jones, president. The program of the Month was given by Mrs. Marvin Lawson, safety leader, on residential fire safety.
School lunch prices were officially going up in Conway in the fall. The Conway School District's Board of Education approved the increase. The new prices were 80 cents for elementary breakfast, $1.25 for an elementary lunch and $1.50 for lunches in the other schools. That was up from 60 cents, $1 and $1.25, respectively. In June, the district's food service location martinique director, Sharon Burgess, told the board the lunch program ran up a $70,000 deficit in the 1997-98 school year.
